i don't know how to help...

reading this week's Sunday Secrets, i saw this card.  and it tears at my heart that our system (and the ppl of this country) makes ANYONE feel this way!  i want to say to the person who sent this card, that it's not their fault!  they ARE wanted.  whoever brought them here, should not have done so illegally.  but if it was his (we'll just go w/ his) parents, they probably came from somewhere with a less than stellar opportunity pool for their child.  they brought him here to open up opportunities.

isn't this the "Land of Opportunity"?!

this is a recent hot topic in the media & whatnot, and i've expressed my opinion here before.

but no matter what, people are PEOPLE.  if someone started out in this country illegally, but has shown themselves to be a productive member of society in their time here - why wouldn't we want them to continue to be here?  we have ppl born here who are not productive members of our society!  we can't really kick them out, since their birth here gives them the right to be here.  but why does that mean we also have to kick out ppl who ARE trying?

people should be here legally, and we as a country should be helping them to do so, not encouraging the fear of law enforcement, making ICE the bad guys, etc.  we shouldn't be attacking those who have chosen to make our country theirs - especially if they're trying!  if they are criminals, if they are committing violent crimes here or wanted for crimes somewhere else, if they are using a false ssn to live off the government's dime instead of working - then of course, we would want them gone from our country.  but as a people and as a government, we need to be smarter and logical and above all compassionate in these cases.

when we do that, we'll remember that tho the broad philosophy of "They are here illegally & shouldn't be," is correct, there are more choices than just to "Send them back."  there are PEOPLE behind the issues, and their feelings and circumstances should be taken into consideration.

and i hope that whomever wrote that postcard got the help he needs, from 1-800-Suicide or other organizations like hopeline, before going thru with his plan.  i pray that someone will be able to witness to him, to let him know that he IS loved, and wanted, and needed.  and i pray that if you're reading this, feeling anything like he expressed on that poscard, that you'll know - YOU are loved.  YOU are wanted.  YOU are needed.

blessings.
