scary
sometimes weird things happen. tonight, the power went off while i was watching the finale of the most recent (hopefully not the last?) season of LXD. only for about 30 seconds before everything came back, thankfully, but it was scary. just all of a sudden POP and then OUT. i went outside & immediately heard sirens - it was pitch black out there, too, streetlights out. they came back, as well, but the sirens just kept coming & then suddenly a series of loud reports - sounded like gunshots, but i don't have a lot of experience w/ gunshots in person (thankfully) ... it could have been transformers blowing, but i would think the power would be staying off in that case... idk, but it was certainly scary!!

so thankful for air conditioning!
hello, bloggy peeps! how goes? it is HOT out there! i mostly have stayed inside, but after i finished my book (i finished Red Roses Mean Love the other night, then read Fantasy Lover, which is a tie-in to the Dark-Hunters, then my all time favorite Dark-Hunter, Seize the Night, which is what i finished today) i needed to take a drive to clear my head. i LOVE the story of val & tabitha. it makes me feel all happy-squishy inside. : )
while i was searching for bride & vane's story in my library, i happened across a couple vampire books which will be my next reads. bride & vane will have to wait. : ) hopefully one of these days i'll get the bug to go thru all my books & get them placed properly, but that day is not today. *laugh* today is for watching Alien Nation & Royal Pains & chatting w/ april & kait (it was nice to text you ladies today!!) & vegging out & later reading some more. : )
reading so much is making me feel more like ME. i didn't even realize how much i missed burying myself in books. taking the book i'm reading everywhere i go, making sure to have it so that even if i have 5 minutes of free time, i can read. truly, i missed that. i still had books everywhere, but computer time and phone time took over reading time. i said i didn't have time anymore to read - and that was true, but it was because i wasn't MAKING time to sit down & read. now, i'm sort of on the other side - i don't feel as compelled to MAKE time for FB - of course, part of that is because lately FB has been full of those ecard things & memes & less about updates of, idk, ppl's actual lives, which is what always drew me to it in the first place! it was pictures & updates & funny quotes that said something about what ppl were doing, as a way to keep up w/ their lives. now... meh. plus, lots of ppl seem bitter. and sometimes that's okay - i mean, things happen & i use FB to vent, too. but some ppl are ALWAYS down in the dumps or fighting w/ their bf/gf then making up w/ them, then fighting... meh.
ANYWAY! i'm not giving up on the FB, but i'm not spending hours there anymore, either. : )
time to get back to royal pains & then start in on Love Bites. : ) ttfn!!

one boy
obviously happy! : )
i don't need to be that kind of girl, altho of course sometimes it would be nice! really, tho, i just need ONE boy to think i'm a girl to look twice at.
i'm a little boy crazy today. i had a perfect view of my work crush at a couple of meetings the past couple weeks, which has been nice. then today, oh my goodness, my former wall-mate & i went out for a break this afternoon, and there was a super TALL, super HOT dude in a tiiiiight gray t-shirt walking our way. he was polite, too, saying "excuse me" as he passed by us. and i couldn't resist looking back at him once he was passed...and he was looking back, too. : )
alas, there's nothing to come of any of it, and most of the time i don't even care, it's not on my radar, whatever. but lately, i just kinda want IT. i'm not going to go looking for IT, tho. not going to the clubs, the bars, the coffee shops - wherever it is thirty-somethings go to find romance. *laugh*
because even tho i know i'm not that kind of girl, the boy for me will think i am. i won't need to win him over, because he'll think my nose is cute right off the bat, or will like my smile and the way my eyes crinkle up and will think my moles make me pretty. he'll want to get to know me, and he'll let me know. i won't have to chase him down; i won't have to be someone other than who i am.
because the boy for me will like me - just the way i am. (thanks a lot, bridget jones's diary. yeesh! that's still my favorite line. LOL)

moving on
i'm all settled in my new desk, altho as of 4 pm when i left, i still don't have a connected phone. they moved my phone, they just forgot to connect it to anything so it's basically a useless piece of plastic with numbers. i reached for it countless times today only to stop before picking up the receiver & uttering a "d'oh!" "dang it" or "dagnabbit!" which are my three favorite d words, affectionately.
other than that - and having a computer that couldn't find a connection for a few hours after the move - it went pretty well. unpacking didn't take any time at all, and my new wall-mates are nice. and randomly funny! LOL and my old wall-mate & i still have our regular break times, so that's good as well. : )
it is funny to me, tho, how we're this huge multi-zillion dollar company and yet the simple act of switching desks can be done so inefficiently that it causes hours of lost work. and who is to blame? who knows! i mean, the dudes who moved my computer & stuff were quite efficient & nice. but then it didn't work. and i didn't know who to contact to get someone over for it to work - i just happened to run into the guy who could fix it. i know they have lists for these things, so idk why they weren't following them!
ah well, Lord willing, the phone will be up & running tomorrow... : )
when home, i popped in some walker & made a yummy avocado salad (w/ tomatoes, carrots, cheese, crackers, pepperoni, and a little creamy Caesar dressing! mmmmm so good! i texted w/ trish & nicki & read Red Roses Mean Love & i'm about to leave the computer for another hour of the book.
i'm like that, you know. once i start reading, i don't want to stop. my stories consume me, make it so i don't even want to turn on the computer because it's only a distraction from the book! love it! i feel the most me when i'm reading a good book. or writing. : )
i hope your day has gone well & that we all have a BLESSED wednesday!

(i'm sure there are details about today that i'm forgetting to record for memory's sake, but i can't think of them right now because my head is full of flowers! later!! : ) )

Red Roses Mean Love
this is the title of one of my favorite books, by one of my favorite authors, Jacquie D'Alessandro. i don't remember how i heard of it, but i entered a contest many years ago when the book came out, and won an autographed copy. i devoured the book, and the next one, Kiss The Cook (featuring a very lively pet raccoon who stole my heart! LOL). i became a fan for life! : )
of course, i have many authors i would give the red rose of love to, ya know?! susan, jacquie, sherri, leigh, lisa,... there are more, of course, but these give you a glimpse at the women - some of whom i am fortunate enough to call friends - whose writing i can read over & over again. and of course, there is laura, who writes books that are outside my normal style, but i love her cadence and the way she weaves a chilling tale! : )
today was a whirlwind at work, seems to be the normal way of things. it's funny - when ppl ask how things are going, i am sort of at a loss as to what to say. i mean, "fine" is accurate, but it seems to paint a picture saying something other than what is really going on. "busy" is appropriate, but doesn't really encompass the scope of things, as they are ALWAYS busy. *laugh* "crazy" would hit the nail on the head, but it sounds like i'm complaining - which i most certainly am not! "better busy than bored" is the mantra i live by at work, and mean it. sometimes, tho, i'd like to only be busy w/ one or two things rather than a whole basket full! *laugh* some days - like today - i feel like one or two things are slipping away from me because i simply do not have time to get them done. i put them off to the next day, but that next day is equally, or more, busy. and then suddenly it's been a week since i've done by memorials and i suddenly have 20 of them and have to devote an entire day to that enterprise...during which time something else gets pushed aside...whee!
tomorrow i have to move to a new desk, and i wish it hadn't been scheduled for a payroll cutoff week. *sigh* not that switching to my new desk would be my favorite thing in the world no matter when it took place, but this week is just particularly ... busy... *laugh* plus, i still have to pack up one of the cabinets...! i'm having a slight panicky feeling in my tummy because i'll be sitting by new ppl near windows that previously caused me issues ... (they're nice ppl, but new neighbors, ya know?)
*sigh* ah well, it'll be alright, even if i will miss my old spot! and my wall-mate!!
on another note, i'm watching some royal pains & walker & going to bed.

restful
that's what i'm hoping today will be. : ) i just wrote a Dear Leyton post all about yesterday's fun at the JD celebration. lots of pictures, of course! you know you want to check it out... : )
it was fabulous, and definitely exhausting! lots of walking, which was nice. i'm so thankful i'm able to walk around & enjoy stuff now rather than being huffing & puffing & feeling like i need to sit down after every few feet! BLESSING!
also a blessing, mom taking me grocery shopping after the festivities. it's so nice to have a fuller fridge again! not that i replaced everything i had to throw out, but enough that i have things to eat for the next two weeks, so that's good. heh. we saw aunt jan as we were leaving, and leyton was so cute, he ran up & gave her a BIG hug! : ) and then as we left he shouted "bye auntie jan!" love it!
when i got home, there were TWO cars blocking my driveway. i was annoyed. i went up to the neighbors & was like, "hey, could you please not park in front of my driveway?" and they were of course apologetic & everything. i told them i'd rather they park IN the driveway if they need to - i have an extra space, and it would be easier for me to get into my driveway w/ a car in that space than one blocking it. LOL so, they moved & i got all the groceries in & then i just VEGGED OUT. *laugh*
i read my book, watched Xanadu (oh, 80's goodness!) & then some eight is enough & i had to stop part way thru an episode because i was falling asleep! heh. the day wore me out - but in a good way! : )
so, today - more dvd's & reading & vegging out, that is the plan.
how's your weekend going?? : )

the bradfords
a few weeks ago, i mentioned to someone that i wished Eight is Enough was on DVD. the other day while at WM, what should i see but Eight is Enough on DVD!!! i shouldn't have bought it, but i did for $20. season 1 took place in 1977-78, so i was 1-ish. it's amazing to see this piece of history come to life. i mean, to see what teenagers were going thru when i was little, and to realize how much has stayed the same more than how much has changed. styles have changed, technology too. but family dynamics, differences in how parents treat boys & girls, concepts about "cougars"... it's really interesting!!
this week has been exhausting, but good. SUPER busy at work, and i was very happy to see today! even tho it was also busy - started out w/ a 2 1/2 hour meeting. heh.
leyton was supposed to have a baseball game tonight, so i went to mom's to go w/ them. but phil called when we were on our way there to say that the game had been delayed. we stopped at popcorn charlie's & got some Old Glory popcorn - white cheddar & red & blue buttered corn. VERY GOOD! then phil called back to say that the game had been cancelled due to overbooking the fields. so we went to the video store & got some movies. i rented xanadu. : )
leyton spent the night tuesday night & we had fun playing cars in the kitchen & watching phineas & ferb. then wednesday after work i went to trish's for dinner & to hang out. i got home a little after 10, only to discover that my power was out! i called to report it & they said yes, it had been out since about 2. i ended up going back to trish's to stay the night on her couch. it took me awhile to get to sleep, as it always does when i'm away from home (except, usually, at the omaha doubletree, which apparently feels like home! *grin*), but i was definitely helped by listening to pandora on my phone! love that app!! : D
the power didn't come back til nearly 7 thursday night, which means it was off for more than 24 hours, which meant i really didn't feel comfortable keeping most of the food in my fridge & freezer. :( so thursday night i threw a BUNCH out. :(
tomorrow is a big fair type celebration that mom, leyton & i will be going to. excited!!! : ) after that, it'll be time to get groceries. yay!
this week i finished The Star King & am now reading a sequel, The Star Prince. re-reading, really, as i've read them many years ago. after that will be - can you guess? The Star Princess. : ) it's a family series!
hmmm. that might be it, you might be all caught up. LOL
what're you up to this weekend?
