go pack go!

so, i don't like football.  i never have.  i would try to watch college ball every once in awhile when i was little, because we were a hawkeye family.  but i just never "got" football.  it seemed like they'd play a little, then have a five minute break.  then play a little more, then a 10 minute break.  this pattern would continue, then there'd be halftime.  and back to the play a little break a lot pattern.  i couldn't get into it.  even when i was IN college, and i went to our team's game... sure the action was cool, but there just wasn't enough of it.  not like basketball, where it is go go go for the whole game.  and baseball can be slow, but you're outside (usually in nice weather) with a soda (or beer) and a hotdog, and the views are amazing!  : )  


and as this super bowl has been coming up, i've just been kinda "meh" about it.  if the bears had made it, i think i would have been excited about the game, just because the bears are iconic to me, because of chicago and also because of the superbowl shuffle.  : )  however, a funny thing happened at mom's this afternoon.


i voluntarily watched the pre-game show.  and found it interesting!  


even more strage, tho, was that when we got back from blockbuster & subway, and anthony turned on the TV to see how the steelers were doing - i was already rooting for green bay, but peripherally, because i love cheese, the color green, and the ideals of vince lombardi.  (okay, actually, i just heard a story about mr. lombardi that made me like him, so had nothing to do w/ my choosing green bay over the steelers.) - i actually WATCHED THE GAME.  crazy.  purely crazy.


but the topper was when i got in the car & turned the game on there.  LOL  but it was half time so nothing was really going on except the occasional foray into the halftime show (which, really?  why can't they get the sound good on these things?  if American Idol can do it, and shows like The Sing Off, why does the live music at the SUPER BOWL of all places sound like crap??) and the lombardi story.  : )  


when i got home, i tried to watch it online, but no such luck (lots of sites, but they all want you to register, and i didn't want to go thru that much work.  sad, i know.)!!  so i just watched the commercials - LOVE the chevy one w/ the truck acting like lassie!!!  i also liked the darth vader one, and the doritos one where the guy is housesitting & uses doritos to revive everything, and the kenny g one!  audi, i think that one was.  : )  


other than football, what else happened today?  oh yes... a whole lotta FUN!  

 leyton got ahold of the camera here... lol  

bret's been gone all weekend, and it's looking like he's not coming home tonight, either?  i hope he's okay... well, i mean, he's been posting to FB so i know he's okay, but i hope he's okay, ya know?  


i'm gonna watch the cape & keep my eye on the score of the game & GO PACK GO!!!  : )

playing monopoly and other sports

oh, what a sparkly fun night!!  : )  have you ever played monopoly w/ a 3 1/2 year old while eating cheesecake & chex mix?  seriously, i recommend it, especially if the 3 1/2 year old is leyton.  : )  before the game, there was some great play going on w/ him & anthony - they were actually GETTING ALONG and PLAYING TOGETHER.  oh my heck, so adorably fun!  : )

that during his 500 years frozen in space, buck was apparently having some ... happy dreams of beautiful women.  as per the opening credits of the first episode.  LOL   


i don't think i'm going to be able to watch the whole episode right now, since i have to take chloe in to get her oil changed, tho!  first observations, tho, are that gil gerard is still very attractive unto mine eye, and that i'm gonna enjoy this!  : )  


had an interesting dream - turned the boss into a teacher and work into a classroom.  my helper bee was there, and she was herself, but also my cousin brenna at the same time.  she was making protest signs - not sure about what.  then the boss turned into giles from buffy, and he was inspecting lockers.  i remember thinking, wondering, why we were acting like high schoolers.  at some point we ended up, my whole work team & the call center, in the sanctuary of the church i grew up in.  *laugh*  one of the guys was running around w/ streamers... not sure what that was about at all.  but it was funny! 


well, time to make the donuts! oh.  wait.  time to head to the car place.  i shall read while i wait, hopefully not TOO long.  heh.  then mom & i are gonna go to sam's.  finally!  i hope there are some good food samples... heh.

back from outing #1... i had a nice time in the waiting room, listening to the sounds coming from the TV - my hubby's show!  hooray!  : )  i read a chapter or two, and then the lady came back to tell me what's what.  $40 for the oil change, look-over and fluids.  it seems excessive to me, but then i know there are the places, the quick lubes, which charge 1/2 that.  am i really getting more?  hmmm.  something to think about, i guess.  mostly i like that they know my car - altho today for some reason they had all my OLD phone information - which hasn't been my info for over 5 years!  *boggle*  that was weird.  


anyway, they said that my car was in really great shape, but that the brakes were at 4 out of 9?  and to rotate them or fix them, it will be $300.  does this seem right?  anyone out there know about cars?  then, for preventative maintenance, to extend the life of the engine, they suggest a fuel induction & coolant flush, which would be $400 more.  it just seems like such a lot of money for things that don't sound that hard to do?  


mom was going to pick me up at noon, but she had some things to do, i guess, so she said she'd pick me up at 2:30.  so, until then, i'm reading blogs & watching Buck.  : )  i also thought i would share my mail call.  a postcrossing, new cards from the little fox to share w/ some peeps, and amy's card from the other day.  love!  

i'm not entirely sure why darcy & elizabeth are fighting cauliflower eating vampires... ?  any ideas?

big gulp is back!

when i was little, i lived just down the street from the 7Eleven.  it's where i bought slurpees and big gulps, and jolly rancher sticks.  my frenemy, tammy, and i would by fire sticks and apple sticks, and sing some goofy song about them, which went... "apple sticks, make me sick, something something something, two forty-six."  was this a popular children's song, or just something she made up?  anyway, of all the things we got at 7Eleven, the thing that was synonymous to it for me was the Big Gulp.  today, every drink is a big gulp.  i mean, really!  and i haven't any idea what size the Gulp was back then.  i just remember loving the cups!  then kwik shop came in & there were no more 7Elevens.  i was sad.  i remember the first time i saw one was still in a neighborhood in chicago & i was all jealous of this neighborhood!  


so, lately i've heard rumors that mother hubbard's cupboard - which apparently bought all the 7Elevens, or vice versa, i'm not sure which - was bringing 7Eleven back.  i haven't seen any pop up anywhere, so i kinda just let it go in one ear & out the other.  *laugh*  then, tonight i stopped in to the cupboard by erin's house, and discovered a whole new 7Eleven world!  for whatever reason, i *heart* the logo.  and so i got a Big Gulp once again - diet pepsi now, tho, instead of mt dew.  and i was so excited - even tho this is the SAME cup from kwik shop or any other random gas station... the little 7Eleven logo just makes me : ) !!


other things that made me smile today... 

- super bowl food day!  LOTS of yum yummyness (to quote amy) to be enjoyed.  

- got all my claims in AND had time to work on vacations!

- ARTHUR'S for dinner ... mmmm!

- hung out w/ erin for a few hours after work.  we talked about life & also GH.  : ) 

- watched GH when i got home.  then it was mentioned in a comment on someone's blog.

- i started following the commenter because her blog was neat! 

- writing postcrossings & other cards/letters to dear friends.  

- watched TWO episodes of Human Target.  (still no White Collar on hulu - what is up w/ that??)

- set up an appt to get chloe's oil changed tomorrow.

- mom agreed to go to sam's w/ me tomorrow, too.  day before super bowl - i'm thinking they're going to have some GOODIES to sample!!  scrumptious!!   

- my bed is going to make me smile in about 10 minutes or so.

a title escapes me today

i have a new niece!!!  : )  her name is ariyana, and she was born just before 5:30 tonight.  *bounce*  (also, she was born just before 5:30, and joy's fb was updated nearly 10 minutes later... LOL)


so, that was the bestest news of today.  i went to bed around 11 last night, and after some interesting dreams which i don't remember anything of other than they were interesting, i got up at 6:30 & left the house at 7.  my plan was to get to work at 7:30.  funny how plans go awry sometimes... i couldn't get up my hill.  so i backed up, turned around, and went around the corner to the next street up.  couldn't get up that hill, either.  grrrr!  made it ALMOST to the top, then started sliding back & couldn't go up any more.  so i had to back alllll the way down the hill.  am very happy i didn't go into a ditch!  by the time i was even out of my neighborhood, 7:30 was gone, but 8 was the goal.


then i spent 1/2 an hour trying to GET to the bridge!  traffic was awful.  thankfully i had Glee to keep me company.  singing along with Kurt is my favorite.  : )  and i got to work at 8:30.  oye!  it was a busy day, but not insane.  i was able to work on stuff w/o a lot of phone/email interruption.  


after work, i went to hy vee to get some snacks for tomorrow's super bowl party at work.  i was going to bring popcorn indiana popcorn, but then marty said she was going to make popcorn, so i just got chex mix.  plus, apparently hy vee doesn't carry this brand?  i didn't see it anyway... i also got yummy hy vee pizza for dinner.  love it, so tasty!!  


when i got home, i couldn't get into my parking spot, so bret kindly came out & shoveled more of a path.  honestly, seeing how small a hole was there, i'm not quite sure how i got OUT this morning!  lol  


i have some pictures, but i'll have to upload them tomorrow.  i'm too tired to deal w/ it today!  *laugh*  am happy tomorrow is friday & that the weekend will soon be here - even if the weekend is to be busy!  going to hang out w/ erin tomorrow night & then leyton & anthony will be at mom's saturday night, so i think i'll hang out there for awhile.  fun fun!

Snow Day Hooray!

Well the decision of going in later or at all was made for me. Lol My door was drifted shut! I did have a nice lie-in, tho. : ) And after getting breakfast taken care of (so happy I got a big box of sausage cheese biscuits) I had a day of MacGyver! I misunderstood Bret & thought he said it started in 2003! Jana set me straight, tho - 1985. THat makes more sense! lol I've also been reading the second Stud Club book. PRetty nice snow day so far - tho I do kinda wish I had snowwpants. with this much snow, it'd be great fun to jump in!! :) How have you been spending Snowpocalypse 2011? Ttfn!

Ssssnowmagedon...brrrr!

Well, it is certainly a snowy one. It didn't look so bad all day. I thought i'd be able to stay at work til 4:30, but at quarter to two the wind suddenly picked up and the blizzard, well the blizzard was suddenly HERE. i left at two-thirty and asked bret to shovel the drive and walkway. it took me an hour (twice the time as normal) to get home and the walkway was already drifted over! when i went out later, i had to literally shovel my way out the door!!  when i went out a little bit ago, the snow drifts are as tall as the car, the one on my back porch is nearly 1/2 way up to the window.  and we saw that AFTER we shoveled to get out.  bret wedged the door open far enough that he could fit thru & then shoveled the porch, then when i came back in, i couldn't get the screen door closed!  d'oh!  finally got it... : )  

and bret just discovered a fb group dedicated to this blizzard. lol!!!!

i really don't know if i'm going to work tomorrow or not.  all the blowing snow, it's supposed to get worse around midnight, until...?  idk when.  and the crews aren't coming out til it's all over - which makes sense in a way because they'd have to be at it constantly at this rate.  i'm not entirely sure how i'll know what the roads are like tomorrow, tho... anyway, i think i'll just plan on going in late & see what the day brings!  

other than all that craziness... 

i made breakfast for dinner - french toast, SPAM & eggs.  mmm!  bret & i watched a Merlin marathon while i finished my book!  : )  next is book #2, Twice Tempted By A Rogue.  main character's name is Rhys.  not sure how to pronounce, so any help would be good!  

now we're watching criminal minds & i'm catching up w/ a couple blogs & then ... i'm hittin the hay.  sleepy!  zzzz  : )  might have pictures of SNOW tomorrow.  aren't you excited?  LOL
