Day 11 – Your siblings

this is my brother, phillip andrew.

he's 6'4", or taller, i'm not sure his exact height.  *laugh*  tall.  that's it.  : )  he is 3 1/2 years younger than me, and when he was a baby i accidentally messed up his tooth because i wanted his bottle & he didn't want to share.  sorry, baby brother!!  he also has scars from when i accidentally clawed him while "play/fighting."  i'm happy we got over that stage & became friends!  heh.

idk when that happened, my parents would joke that it was when he got taller than me!  which is entirely probable.  he's always been a gentleman, and never deliberately hurt me, cuz i'm a girl.  : )  i always tried to be a good big sister.  he was always cooler than me, tho.  which is okay!

i love him lots, and i'm happy that God blessed me w/ him.  he's an awesome brother and father, and i hope that someday soon he'll let the Lord back into his heart!  he knows Him, he just doesn't always act like it, or something like that.

tonight i got to hug him, and i gave him a present from our trip to the bass pro shop (personalized shot glass, woot!).  he got home just in time to give leyton a bath, too.

we were also blessed to have a cousin-brother & sister, and many groups of foster siblings.

sometimes it was hard to have these "new kids" in our home - when phil was in HS & i was in college & after, so we were already "grown."  and i have to admit that having foster sibs did play a part in my not wanting kids of my own.  having babies and 2 & 3 year old (and older, in some cases) constantly in the house was exhausting!  as much as i loved it, and loved each & every one of those kids, some days i would just go into my room & shut the door because i didn't want to deal w/ them!  you can't (or shouldn't, really) do that w/ your own kids!  altho you can send them off to gramma's or auntie or uncle or the sitters... heh.

{the plan was to have photos of bret, misha, jorey, amorae, jasmine, elisabeth, johnna, jonathan & ethan here, but my computer doesn't like the folder they are in, and went all lizzie borden on me when i tried to insert pictures.  so... i might try to edit them in on another day, or i'll just randomly pop them into other posts later!}

anyway, blessings!!!

*****************

and now for today, in which i had fun at the open house - tons of great food, and i ordered about $30 of product.  also, i was texted later to say i won the hostess gift, so woot!!  : )  it was crazy to get there, tho!  the road i needed to take was under construction, so traffic was moving at a snail's pace.  and i was already running about 20 minutes behind!  but it was okay, as usual of course, and everything worked out nicely.

after the open house, i met mom & leyton at the park & we played for 20 minutes or so.  BEAUTIFUL day out, for sure!

this is the cutest gramma-leyton picture in the history of gramma-leyton pictures thus far, don't ya think?  they had both just climbed up the slide, and were saying "ta-da!"  : )

leyton got a spongebob & patrick tattoo at the hawkeye's kids' day party thingy.

next, we went to famous footwear, because mom was appalled that i was still wearing the ratty shoes i had on.  she very generously bought me 2 pairs of dressy shoes & now i just need to get tennies!  she kept going to the trainer-looking tennies, and i prefer the converse or canvas look.  sketchers would be okay, too, some styles.  unfortunately, my little feet are quite wide (i say little because they look little but i wear a larger shoe, possibly because of their width!), and they didn't carry a lot of wide-width shoes.  and apparently converse shoes run narrow.  darn it!!  i tried on a couple pair and they fit great - except they didn't look great at the wide part of my food because they didn't lace up properly.  : (  i was disappointed in that.  so, then mom kept trying to get me to like these ... athletic looking shoes.  i might change my mind later, but for right now, that is just a look that i don't like!  i don't really want my shoes to look like i could break into a jog at any time, or that i just came off the bball court.  just not my style, and i think the shoes that are my style look better w/ skirts anyway.

: )

our next stop was going to be dinner, but mo' brady's didn't open til 4, so we went to toys r us to check out some zhu zhu pets.  leyton & i left mom to pick out hamsters while we looked at matchbox cars & of course thomas the train toys!  i debated taking the camera in w/ me, and decided not to.  i regret that decision because not only were there tons of cute leyton moments, but there were some pretty nifty TOYS that i would have liked to have shared!  apparently, medieval play is in?  there were a ton of knights, dragons, villages... i was excited to see it, but also a little peeved that i'd never heard of these toys!!  *laugh*  i also discovered a smurf village and a bunch of awesome lego stuff.  i knew there were lego cameras thanks to this blog, but i had no idea there were also video cameras, boom boxes and clock radios!

seriously, ppl, i almost bought it!!  (but i have a perfectly working alarm clock and i don't NEED a lego alarm clock, and so it is still safely at home at toys r us.)

finally, after reuniting w/ mom & her hamsters, leyton picked out a matchbox garbage truck & we checked out to go to dinner.  YUMMY!  we had a sweet auntie-leyton moment, too... : )

i'm not entirely sure what that expression is... he looks scared but he's the one who was being all huggy, so i promise he wasn't scared!  *laugh*

then it was back to mom's to play at the park for a few minutes, then play w/ the hamsters (tex and rocky) and play dough and eat a popsicle (him) and a klondike bar (me) while mom napped on the couch.

i made my way home, to chat w/ joy & find out that my next niece or nephew will be a niece (yay! yay! yay!).  read some blogs and wrote this one and the dinner one and now... now i can think about sleeping!  *laugh*

ohhhh, before i sleep, tho... i got two wonderful pieces of mail today - a postcrossing from poland and the sweetest card from cousin kathy.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!  *HUGS*  this made my day even more perfect!  : )

so, take care, and i hope your day was wonderful, too.   ttfn!

i've told my september 11th story before, so today i'll just say, i remember.  i pray for the families of those who did not survive, the children who don't get to know their fathers because of this day.  i pray for those who survived, that they know they are here for a reason and that they use their lives for good.  i pray for the misguided florida "preacher" who has gotten the will of God so twisted in his head, he has become no better than the terrorists he preaches against.  i pray for former president bush, and for our current president obama, because it's not easy having all that pressure on your shoulders!

september 11th, to me, isn't all about "september 11th" tho.

september 11th is my aunt jan's birthday!  and it's a HAPPY day and a CELEBRATORY day.

and i refuse to let the terrorists take that away.

so, i remember, and i pray, and i still thank the Lord for today, and for the blessings He has given us as well!

(today might be a 3 post day...or i might combine my Siblings post w/ my daily post.  just thought i'd let you know.  *laugh*)

ttfn.

Day 10 – What you wore today

if i'd paid attention to what this post was going to be, i would have taken a picture of what i wore today!  *laugh*  alas, i did not, and so all you get is this description... today i wore my long, pink, flowy and flowery skirt with an orange (yes, orange!) top.  my hair was in its usual summery ponytail, my feet shod with the usual white socks and black flats.  : )  nearly immediately upon getting home, the skirt and shoes and socks were shed in favor of blue pyjama pants and bare feet.  part of the reason i choose to wear skirts (long, flowy skirts like today's are my favorite) is because they are comfortable, but there's still something about sloughing off the "work clothes" in favor of clothing i could fall asleep in if i chose.  heh.

wow, that was exciting, no?  i'm a real fashion plate, i tell ya!  LOL

********************

don't hold out high hopes for the rest of this post, either, sorry...

altho, it was a pretty cool day.  gave the boss his birthiversary gift from the team, the game i was on a mission to find yesterday...

he was really excited, too, which made me happy.  this is the one i saw on our way to dbq, which i posted on FB, and he commented that he wanted it, so i sent an email to the team to see if we wanted to get it for him & we did!  : )  of course, then there was the challenge - because i'd seen it in a store, i didn't think there'd be any difficulty finding it around here.  except all the stores had it - ONLINE!  well, i didn't discover this til wednesday, which was really not enough time to order it & get it by today, even if i did site to store!  so, yesterday the Lord finally stuck it in my head that i could probably find it at the same type of store as thiessen's.  i went to farm & fleet - no luck.  then, as i sat in the parking lot, racking my brain, it came to me & i called the sports store & voila!  : )  yay!!!  and it was totally worth it, would have been worth it if i'd had to go back to thiessen's, even, because he came out of his office holding it above his head & then went all over the office to show it off!  heh.

we should do an iowaopoly tournament... LOL

the rest of the day was pretty normal.  got a lot accomplished because i didn't have to put out a lot of fires or anything, and mostly just did my daily stuff.  : )  had donuts (birthday treats from the boss, sweet!) and forgot that my helper bee brought in ice cream, d'oh!  hopefully it'll still be there monday.  i've been feening for some ice cream & keep forgetting to get some!

tonight i have just been watching hulu (rookie blue, and hell's kitchen, finally!) and chatting w/ april (and kait sorta, lol) and reading lots of bloggies.  happy happy night!

tomorrow i am hanging out w/ mom & leyton & going to a tastefully simple party.  bountiful beer bread, ppl.  if you don't know it, let me know & i'll put you in touch w/ a consultant so you can order some.  it's delicious! i'm either ordering that mix or the pancake mix.  there's also a delicious syrup... i'm hoping that mom & leyton will go w/ me, but we'll see what happens!

for now.. some pandora & more blogs & then i am off to zzzzz zzzzz land!  am pretty much ready for sleep.  take care & ttfn!!!  : )   and if i've forgotten something which for some reason i feel like i have, i'll edit it in later...

ZOOOOOOO

wonderful day!  wonderful, blessed, amazing, fun, awesome day!  : )

didn't start out so wonderfully... woke up slightly hungry, but really okay.  missed my exit & squeaked in to work late but not too badly!  seriously, construction messes me up, dude!  *laugh*  i totally forgot that my normal exit is closed, and was just driving on auto-pilot (i blame the hunger).  my 9 o'clock meeting was productive, i think.  i hope!  we'll see just HOW productive next week sometime.  : )

labs were interesting.  apparently they didn't get the memo that it was a REdraw.  oye.  then my vein decided it was only giving one tube of blood & no more.  was kinda funny, actually, except that she kept digging the needle around trying to get the blood to flow again and it HURT.  : (  seriously, phlebotomists, that is NOT the way to do it.  oye.

finally getting to eat something was NIIIIICE.  had a donut & some nachos.  doesn't sound healthy, but the nachos were fairly... LOL  i mean, meat & cheese is healthy!  unless you're vegan.  ; )

i have a story about finding the boss's birthiversary gift, but i'll wait to tell that until tomorrow.

for now, i am just going to write about the zoo.  mom & leyton picked me up around 2:30 & we got gas & then went to the zoo.

pretty neat photograph, by leyton!

i love this picture... and do you see what i mean??

there's something goofy going on w/ my normal SD card - every time i put it into the camera, the safety lock goes down & so i have to keep taking it out & resetting it.  well, it was getting very frustrating, so i just put in my other SD card.  my normal one has about 700 pictures available, my other one only has about 150.  but it worked out okay for zoo pics!

also, the very first thing i noticed when i got into the car - leyton looks all grown up!!!  idk if he has gotten taller or what - i just saw him saturday!  and i started to get all teary eyed, and mom said she had noticed the same thing today, and then leyton made us laugh because he said, "Aunt Carrie, you don't have to be sad because i'm growing up!"  oh my heck, how grown up and CUTE is that?!  lol

once at the zoo, the first thing we did was ride the train.  why are there stars on this elephant's rump?  does anyone know?

another photo by ljww  : )

we fed the duckies & leyton made friends w/ a hungry swan.  i know ppl say they're mean, but this one was perfectly nice!

we saw monkeys & wallabies & lots of birds.  also some cute zoo workers.  : )  and there was the petting zoo, where last time leyton didn't want anything to do w/ the goats.  this time, he made some friends!!

my favorite goat was a little tiny one, he was so adorable!!  his horns were too cute!  : )  i had just been petting him, but then i gave in & fed him some & ewwww slimy goat tongue!  *laugh*  but he was still cute.

we went to visit the giraffe's, but first had some fun w/ the friendly penguins.  mom called them over for a group picture, and 2 out of 3 obliged.  it was seriously hilarious - she said, "okay, guys, group picture!" and two of them started going towards each other & then were hanging out looking at the camera!!

and then it was time for my favorite animal at the zoo (aside from the tortoises & turtles, of course)...

they were being VERY photogenic today!  and they have FIVE now!  two babies!  soooo adorable, baby anything.  one of these days i will get to pet one.  i want to hug their long necks, kinda like leyton did on the dinosaur.  i don't know that i'll ever get to be THAT close to a giraffe, but it's a dream...

after the zoo, we went to happy joe's/rudy's tacos for dinner.  i had a delicious quesadilla!  : )  leyton had fun w/ the games, but only ate 1/2 his lil joe.  mom had a yummy pasta bake.  mmmm!

prizes he got w/ his tickets.  those tops are pretty cool!

after dinner, we went to mom's so she could set her vcr to tape BB.  while there, she sorta ran into her carport and dented the van.  d'oh!!

then we were off to fedex office (aka kinko's) so mom could make a copy of leyton's handprint that he made in pre-school.  leyton & i played on the business card computer while mom took care of business.  quite a fun little field trip!!

then they dropped me at home so i could watch BB & chat w/ april, read some blogs, write my beliefs blog and this one, watch AGT (all my faves made top 4, i am so happy!) and white collar (oh my heck, so so so soooooo good!!) and GH.  and.... now it's time for bed!  ; )

TGIF tomorrow!  gonna be a busy day, but should also be a fun one, and then it's the weekend!  leyton'll be over at mom's, so i think we'll be hanging out on saturday.   : )  i hope you had many blessings & things to be thankful for this thursday!  TTFN!

Day 09 – Your beliefs

My beliefs are very simple.

I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, His Father God and the Holy Spirit, also known as the Holy Ghost.  I believe they are a Trinity, three separate and distinct persons who are One in purpose.

I believe that Jesus created the universe (and maybe more than just ours).

I believe that Jesus chose to come to earth and be born and teach and live and die for ME and for YOU.  I believe that His death was necessary to my salvation, IS my salvation, and was His gift.  (There is a line in Buffy, season 5, I think - The First Slayer comes to Buffy in a dream & tells her, "Death is your gift."  And Buffy gets all offended & mad, and says, "Death is my gift?  Death is not a gift!"  But that line always gets me, because death was the Lord's gift to us.  Becaue He chose to die for our sins, we are FREE.  We are free to live.  (I think that's a song...))  Death holds no power over us anymore, because it is not an ending but a transition.  It still sucks when we lose someone, because we love them and we want them to be with us.  And we still have the ... well, no one really wants to die.  I certainly don't.  I want to be around for a long time to watch all my kids grow up and their kids grow up!  But I know that when the time comes for me to leave this earth, I'll be moving on to somewhere so much better, and so unimaginably better!  I know that's where Daddy is.

I believe that the Lord's plan for us, for all of us, does not involve hating each other or nit-picking semantics of belief.  If you are a Christian, if you love the Lord, that love will be evident in everything you do.  It doesn't mean you'll be perfect - no one is perfect!  It doesn't even mean you will never do something awful, or hurt someone's feelings.  It just means that your intent is always in love.  You don't want to hurt anyone, and if it happens accidentally or even if you go through a time where you lose your mind & do bad things intentionally, your conscience gets you.  *laugh*

There are lots of things in this world that ppl (Christians) let cloud what's important.  It's not important if someone is gay.  It's not important if someone chooses to use birth control - or not use birth control.  It's not important if someone believes something differently than we do.  Okay, let me rephrase that, because it IS important.  Each of those is very important in that person's life.  But those decisions are btwn that person and God.  In the end, the point of our creation is our free will.  God wanted us to CHOOSE Him.  He created us with a longing for Him, but we have to choose what we do with that longing.

I believe that to witness to someone is to share your own beliefs and reasons for those beliefs, to show them the Lord's love through your actions, and to let them know, as needed, that God the Father, Jesus our Savior, and the Holy Spirit LOVE them.  they don't have to do anything.  WE don't have to do anything to earn that love.  part of that love, though, is accepting the choices ppl make.

anywhoo!  that's what i believe.  the short version is - Jesus loves you.  : )

ttfn - i'm off to post a blog about the zoo today!  (apparently it was too much work to keep using capitals...LOL)

Day 08 – A moment

{first of all, that song "One Moment In Time" is now going thru my head.  i'm kinda annoyed.}

had a wonderful meeting today at HQ!  the panel discussion from leadership was very interesting and informative and i'm soooooo happy i went!  after the meeting, when we were all filing out, my friend dawn came up to me from across the room (she'd been sitting on the other side, i guess!) and we chatted & walked out to our cars.  or, to her car.  i had completely forgotten where i'd parked!

so, for a moment, i wandered aimlessly around the parking lot, until i found chloe.  whew!

is that the kind of moment day 8 is asking for?  i have no idea, but that's what you get!

i'll also share some other moments from today...

- pretty calm day, actually.  i mean, there were the usual crazy things going on, but everything sort of fell into nice compartments, even the crazy times!!

- the plan was to leave at 4:30, since i came in for the meeting at 8.  however, ended up having an impromptu meeting at 4:30 & didn't leave til 5!  : )

- pizza for dinner.

- fasting began at 10.

- the plan was to make some fish around 9 & have a bowl of strawberry (flavored!) mini wheats to a protein/fiber boost since i can't eat anything til 11-ish tomorrow!

- i wasn't really hungry at 9.  i (mostly) don't eat when i'm not hungry.

- i'm hungry right now.  it's 11pm.  i'm not getting anything to eat.  *sigh*  *laugh*  *sigh*

- if i'm hungry right now, what'm i gonna be like when i get up??  i get lightheaded when i don't eat!  i get cranky and out of sorts.  i have an important meeting at 9.  argh!!!  (it's already starting!  LOL)

- got to watch America's Got Talent & talk to april (who by the way, has 3 amazing kids i'd like to shout out to.  kait, charlie & evan are awesome & i wish i got to see them - and their parents - more often!) & watch BB & oh my goodness the first part of final HOH looked intense but fun.  sort of.  *laugh*  i also watched an episode of Melissa & Joey & i wish hulu had more available cuz i really liked the one i saw!!

- read lots of blogs tonight, caught up if you will.  heh.  micaela has a really cute puppy post (pictures, you know you want to go look, ERIN!)!!  brandi is also doing the 30 Days of You blogging, and her day 6 post has some really fun pictures.  i'm especially fond of the first & last photos w/ the robot.  : )  ree, also known as the pioneer woman,  has an interesting post up about blogging!  and marz has a little bit about her up, if you'd like to get to know her awesomeness!

- thus ends my link-happy paragraph!  : )

- oh, i talked to mom tonight & we're all booked at the holiday inn in ames for Thomas weekend!!  i can not WAIT!!!  : )

- before that, tho, i get to hang out w/ her & leyton tomorrow.  woot!  i love thursdays, which i say every week at some point or another, right?   heh.

- what else?  idk!  i think it's about time for bed.  sleep will take care of the gnawing hunger until the morning! (nah, it's really not that bad.  i will be fine.  God is good! (all the time!))

take care & i hope your wednesday was wonderful!  ttfn!

Tuesday, 7 September 2010

fish day

totally got to have fish for two meals & i looooooved it!!  : )  salmon for lunch & beer battered cod for dinner.  with glazed carrots, which were good, as well.

so, back to work today.  intense day!  had a kick off meeting for something.  *edit*  would love to tell you all about it, but i fear some ppl would get the wrong idea, so i'll just say it was interesting and we got treats & soda!  *laugh*

it was a beautiful day, weather wise.  i am so ready for fall it's not even funny!!!  : )

got to chat w/ april & joy a little tonight, nice!!  also, watched Secret Life (really, ashley, come on!!!) and Rookie Blue (a-ma-zing show, really!  if you like cop shows at all, this is a must-watch.) and finished catching up w/ GH.  tomorrow i must start my OLTL catch up.  and also hopefully White Collar's season finale will be up.  oh yeah!!  : )

have a meeting at HQ tomorrow.  a leadership panel discussion.  i'm really looking forward to it!  but, it starts at 8, which means i need to be up 1/2 an hour earlier, which means i really should go to bed, right?  : )  so, goodnight, and i hope your tuesday went well!!  i know there was something else i wanted to share, but can't think of what it was now.  ah well, i'm sure it'll come to me later!

i'll leave you w/ the adorable postcrossing i received from china today.  ttfn!!
